Re: 1979-04-16 Osaka, Japan
Yea, this is the one. A truly magical night.
Perry is over the top with all the songs---especially with Patiently...just singing his heart out to the total max. He could not have given more. No, he could not have. And the rest of the band are right with him, performing to the same phenomenal level. Such an awesome show.
I am assuming it's a partial recording given that the rest of the Japan shows for this 1979 tour were 2 disc sets. I am also assuming someone has the rest of the show and will someday release the entire show officially. One can only hope. But even if they don't, it doesn't matter. What we DO have is so kick-ass...and nourishing because of it, that we don't need the rest to be any happier.

Yeah I'm guessing this was all that was aired. Apparently there is a copy with the same setlist but better quality, but I haven't seen it.

I've always had 2 CD copies of this show and I have it listed as Tokyo too. Is the date on this recording confirmed?

I didn't realize this was the "Visited To Japan" copy and I have the silver CD for this. I definitely have a more complete broadcast and it was an FM broadcast too. However, Osaka makes better sense to me since Boston played at Budokan Hall in Tokyo on this night as well. They could have both been playing in Tokyo but I don't know. I've always had my copies stating Tokyo (and with traders too) since the 1990's. I do know the date on the artwork is incorrect but I'm not looking at it now. I think it claims 4/15/79?

Re: 1979-04-16 Osaka, Japan
This must be Tokyo 4/16/79 in "Visited To Japan" but it could be Osaka too I guess. I have been checking (and still looking) for other copies of all three nights in Japan (4/15, 4/16, and 4/18) that I have and it is taking a long time. Perry states "We have one more show in after tonight in Tokyo..." at the end of "On A Saturday Night". I always took this to mean he was talking to a Tokyo audience but they could have as easily been in Osaka I assume just stating the facts. I've compared this to other copies of 4/15/79 and it definitely is not that night. For some reason, and I've done an EAC rip of this silver CD too, I cannot find 4/16/79 or "Visited To Japan" on my hard drives. I am going through the actual CD and CD-R copies I've gotten through the years of Journey shows and like I mentioned, it is taking a while.
OK, I found most recordings I have of these shows and I do NOT have a 2 CD copy of the 4/16/79 show I can find yet. I have two copies on my list but I need to find all shows first and then compare.
Andy BTW, Journey's last show on this tour in Tokyo (18th) was Boston's beginning day for their tour in Tokyo. So they both did play on that night. More to follow...
